The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (CBPU), Wyoming, was
striving towards implementing a cost-effective enterprise-wide
geospatial modeling system to help plan the expansion and rehabilitation
of their existing water and wastewater infrastructures to best
accommodate continued community growth. CBPU provides water
and sewer services to the City of Cheyenne, FE Warren Air Force
Base and the South Cheyenne Water and Sewer District.
Following an interminable struggle with other software packages,
CBPU chose, after careful evaluation of a range of functional
and technical requirements, MWH Soft's H2OMAP GIS Water and
Sewer software suites. In record time, the H2OMAP models were
built directly from CBPU's extensive ArcGIS (ESRI, Redlands,
CA) data model and calibrated based on field conditions. CBPU's
calibrated H2OMAP Water model comprised 4,372 pipes (507 miles)
while its calibrated H2OMAP Sewer model contained 2,795 pipes
(147 miles). The models were then use to optimize system operations
and performance and capital improvement projects.
"We selected H2OMAP Water and Sewer software because
of its cross platform compatibility with ArcGIS, rich functionality,
computational speed and stability, powerful graphics, and
ease of use," said Jeffrey Pecenka, P.E., supervising
engineer and GIS/modeling specialist for CBPU and a member
of the Cheyenne Geographical Information Advisory Council.
"We wanted an integrated modeling approach that combined
the powerful features of GIS with superior modeling capabilities
- one that allowed us to seamlessly exchange data to provide
accurate and timely solutions to problems."
Pecenka said the decision to go with MWHSoft was validated
by the after-purchase experience. "We were delighted
with the rock-like stability of the H2OMAP numerical engine,
the suite's extensive functionality, and how effectively H2OMAP
enhanced the efficiency of our workflow process," he
said. "We were also very impressed with the prompt and
tireless support we received from MWH Soft professional staff.
H2OMAP has been phenomenally useful in helping us improve
the operation and management of our water and sewer systems,
boost our productivity, and maximize our efficiency. In short,
it's exactly what we needed. We highly recommend it to any
utility."
With this decisive performance, H2OMAP has once again raised
the standard of water distribution and wastewater collection
systems modeling to new levels of reliability and performance,
giving utilities significant boosts in productivity and efficiencies.
